The University of Vocational Technology (UoVT) marked a significant milestone with the official visit of Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya to the Ratmalana campus on May 26, 2026.
During the event, the Prime Minister ceremonially declared open the new High-Definition (HD) Production Studio and Podcasting Station, a modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory, and the Center for Gender Equity and Equity (CGEE).
The Prime Minister participated in a live televised panel discussion together with Hon. Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Mr. Nalin Hewage, Ministry Secretary, Vice Chancellor Prof. K.M.G. Prasanna Premadasa, and Dean Mr. Dilantha Ratnayake regarding the future of vocational education in Sri Lanka.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister emphasized the Government’s commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and highlighted the importance of production-oriented and industry-ready education.
The event also featured the official launch of the UoVT Green Policy, which establishes a framework for sustainability and environmentally responsible university operations.
As part of the university’s social responsibility initiatives, laptop computers were ceremonially donated to schools affected by the recent Ditwa disaster.
The Vice Chancellor also presented the Prime Minister with a special collection of sustainable products developed and manufactured by UoVT students through biotechnology and industrial laboratory research.
Vice Chancellor Prof. K.M.G. Prasanna Premadasa stated that UoVT is prepared to operate at a world-class standard and continue producing skilled professionals for Sri Lanka’s production-based economy.
